Critical Thinking Questions - Week 4 - Ashford University - EDU 651

The Assignment:


Read Minds on Fire: Open Education, the Long Tail, and Learning 2.0" by John Seely Brown and Richard P. Adler. In a 2-5 page paper (double-spaced, not including title and reference pages), answer the following questions with insight derived from thinking critically about the above article.
  1. According to Brown and Adler, the way students learn has changed. Describe what Learning 2.0 is and how we can use Web 2.0 resources to support learning.
  2. Describe the perfect storm of opportunity that Brown and Adler state is brewing and how it can transform education into an open, participatory ecosystem. Provide specific examples from the article to support your assertions.
  3. Define and describe social learning and discuss some of the Web 2.0 tools from the article that support social learning. Describe a social learning activity using a Web 2.0 tool mentioned in the article that you might use in practice. Support your choice with citations from the article.

I am still considering how to engage question c. Both graphics include a list of the Web 2.0 tools useful in social learning: blogs, wikis, social networks, tagging systems, mash ups, and content sharing. Social learning is the tendency to learn from the context of social interaction, learning as a participant in the culture while earning credibility. The interactive environment allows for the transfer of knowledge and skills, but also encourages insight and innovation from newer participants.
